Artisan Custom Homes enters building market

Artisan Custom Homes has opened an office in the Knox Court Building in downtown Davidson. The newly formed company specializes in building custom homes while maintaining a high level of cost control to provide homeowners with the best possible value on their investment. Artisan Custom Homes also offers complimentary bids for remodeling and new additions.

Jay Johnstone, Brad Remmey and John Shryock, who decided to pool their combined breadth of knowledge of the Charlotte construction industry, formed the company in July 2001.

Johnstone has 14 years of experience overseeing all areas of residential construction. His role at Artisan Custom Homes is to ensure that the highest standards of quality are never compromised. He also aligns each project with sub-contractors. His background includes custom building, remodeling existing homes and prospecting land. He has supervised the construction of homes ranging in price from $300,000 to $4.5 million. Remmey's experience is in sales and marketing. He began his career at AT&T where he sold network services and prospected clients in New Jersey and New York City. After leaving AT&T, he worked for a division of USA Networks, Citysearch.com. While there, he managed the firm¹s largest account, American Express. Remmey¹s role at Artisan Custom Homes is to assist customers in creating homes designed specifically for families¹ budgets and lifestyles. Shryock has nine years of construction supervision expertise in keeping projects on schedule and within budget. He started in the home-building business framing houses in Raleigh in the early 1990s. Most recently, he was the supervising builder of one of the largest high-end production builders in Charlotte. Shryock managed the building of 40 to 50 homes per year ranging in price from $300,000 to $700,000.

"Our philosophy is that while there are many builders in the area, Artisan Custom Homes will create a home for our customers, not just a house," said Remmey. "Our company pays close attention to the details which make a difference, floor plan flow, function of each room, best use of outdoor space and meeting storage needs. Unlike most builders, Artisan Custom Homes welcomes the client¹s active participation in the construction of their home. Building or renovating a house can be stressful; therefore we provide customer service on a daily basis, seven days a week, to alleviate any concerns the client may have before we break ground." Artisan Custom Homes currently has homes under construction in Charlotte, Gastonia, Davidson, Concord and Cornelius.

The company has plans to build two spec homes this year in Cornelius and Davidson. The business plan is to achieve $2.5 million in revenue in 2002, with 2003 expectations in excess of $5 million.
